When Public bikes were first in the scene, they were pretty dubious quality. Easy on the eyes, but poorly spec’d with not great geometry. Now the company is run by real bike people (was started by the guy from Design Within Reach) and they are much better. These are a grand new, so they have some money to play with. Sure, there is a kickstand on a road bike and the rim color is a little much, but this is a great riding, comfy and upright, sensibly spec’d bike. A GREAT first road bike. Claris 3 x 8 with brake interrupter levers. Medium 58 CM $525
