Making the move to a drop bar road bike on super narrow tires is probably not the best way to get into (or back into) serious cycling. There is enough to figure out in terms of safe riding to not to have to worry about your skinny race tires getting stuck in a storm drain grate.
The Iseo is a great first 'serious' bike. It is a flat bar bike, like a mountain bike, but is on the larger wheels and narrower tires of a road bike. The tires aren't actually road bike narrow; they are 700x32s which is in between a road bike and mountain bike. I consider the Iseo to be a higher performance bike than a hybrid - it is more of a flat bar road bike.
It is not as upright/comfy as the Cortina and not as performance oriented as the Via Nirones.
