Peugeot City Bike
The much maligned Peugeot UO-8 reborn as a fantastic city bike. From unique French standards to plastic derailleurs that melt in your hands, a stock UO-8 is a difficult bike to love. Try walking into your local bike shop and asking for French cotters. Bike mechanics, the lions of the climbs and heroes of Cat 5, will blanche like they saw a ghost. We know how to deal with these old Peugeots - replace everything! The only things original on this bike: frame/fork, headset, rear hangers and the Mafac Racers.
Stripped and rebuilt with Velo Orange French thread BB, new wheels, Cardiff sprung saddle, mixed Shimano drivetrain with Deore DX rear derailleur, shellac'd cork grips, et al. Truth: the UO-8 is well suited to burrito slayer heroism: long sport touring-ish wheelbase, lots of fork rake, heavy but not oppressively so. Large 58 CM $485 Well suited for a front child seat; not good for a rear.
